Twins, divination statue (LOBI)

unknown Master of LOBI
Burkina Faso
Bronze, H 84 cm / 33.1 in.
Prov.: Collection Karl William Heiss, coll. 2008

This bronze couple unites male and female elements to a harmonic and balanced shape, representing the strong inner connection between opposites. Used as a divination figure, the statue can lend the power to look into the past as well as into the future. It also acts as a protector against the 'bush spirits'.

This couple clearly shows the highly developed casting skills and tradition of the Lobi.
